Christmas in New York City

December 23, 2016

It's becoming a trend that we go on annual trips for each of our birthdays. For mine last year, we had a fantastic time in Chicago - it was perfection. This year, we decided that we'd head to NYC so we can take in all the holiday sights. New York City is my favorite place (so far... I have yet to visit Europe but it's on the 2017 list). It is so incredibly festive there from Thanksgiving through New Years and if you ever have the opportunity to visit at that time, go! I love hearing about where people go and what they do when they travel, so I recapped our trip.

Chelsea Market- this is an incredible food hall, mall and most importantly, where the Food Network is headquartered and films Chopped! There are so many cute vendors and tons of food options. We had chicken tacos at Los Tacos, lobster bisque at The Lobster Place, espresso at Ninth Street Espresso and ice cream at Creamline! Yes, we really had all of those things right before dinner, and they were all delicious.

230 FIFTH Rooftop Bar- this place had the most incredible rooftop view! There is a bar and restaurant area that has floor to ceiling windows that have breathtaking skyline views. It was pretty cold, but we still went to the roof to see the sights and they have these great little igloos to keep warm in! Definitely a good place if you're looking to eat/drink with a view.

Le Pain Quotidien- we had breakfast here and it had the best avocado toast in the world. It was a cute bakery that was the perfect place to have a quick bite or even a working breakfast (they have communal work tables). What's better is that it is right across the street from Bryant Park!

Bryant Park- This is one of the best places to ice skate! There is also a holiday market filled with vendors who sell all sorts of items for gifts, chocolates, accessories, jewelry, ornaments - everything! There is also a Le Pain Quotidien located in the park.

Spoon Table & Bar- This was right across the street from our hotel, so we decided to stop in for breakfast. It was quaint and delicious. It was pretty empty when we were there so it was quick and peaceful.

The New York Public Library- This is one of the most gorgeous buildings I have ever set foot in, and I totally understand why Carrie Bradshaw wanted to get married there. It's so chic and dreamy. It's open to the public for tours and there is a beautiful tree in the lobby. A must see for a quick second!

Impero Caffe- We watch an absurd amount of Food Network shows and the most popular is Chopped. That said, we had to check out Scott Conant's new restaurant! It was so nicely done and everything was delicious. There was a huge wall made off moss art that was so interesting. I spy Kelly Lipovich of Sylvan State Park in the picture :)

Butter Midtown- Following suit on our favorite Chopped chef dinner tour, we went to Alex Guarnaschelli's restaurant, Butter. IT WAS PHENOMENAL - not that I would've expected anything less. I didn't take any pictures, but it was as if we were eating in a cozy woods. I had gnocchi mac and cheese and it was possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten. We also loved the cavatappi pasta, toasted farro risotto pesto and the spinach and melted bacon dip. not to mention the delicious bread and flavored butter.

Fifth Avenue- No doubt in the world that this is the best of the best for shopping. Storefronts are magnificently decorated for the holidays and it is such a sight to see. There are blocks and blocks of stores high-end, department stores and everything in between. There is nothing quite like a walk down Fifth Ave.

Magnolia Bakery- If you are in need of a sweet treat, this is your place. It's the tiniest little bakery and it's entire space is consumed by a huge bakery case filled with delights. We tried the Caramel Pecan Cheesecake and I have thought about it every day since. Run, don't walk.

Rockefeller Center- The lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center was a few days after we left so it was really cool to see the tree decorating in progress. I have always wondered how they decorate that enormous tree - the answer is tons of scaffolding. This is another perfect place to ice skate or grab a bite to eat.
