For the past 3.5 years, I have been subscribing to a magical thing called Birchbox, which is a monthly service that delivers an adorably delightful box full of 5-6 beauty product samples a month. You fill out a profile for your hair, nail, skin and makeup types and preferences, and voila! tailored samples (and sometimes full-size items) are delivered to you monthly for only $10! It has allowed me to try so many new products that I never would have found otherwise. Plus, you get points for each review or full-size item purchase. I thought I would start sharing my product reviews here!
treStiQue color & smudge shadow crayon in Aspen Pine : this little beauty was smooth as can be! I am starting to love crayon shadows more and more and this pigment was great! It was creamy and long lasting. It had hints of shimmer and was the perfect color for me as it is a dark green and I have green eyes... Birchbox knows all. This is a prime example of something I would've never purchased on my own but ended up loving!
Wilma Shumann Skincare Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads: I was so incredibly excited to see these in my box this month. I am a sucker for eye pads. They are 100% collagen, so I had really high expectations. I really don't get dark circles, but I do have fine lines and was expecting these to plump them right up. I would say they worked, but they didn't work to the level I was hoping for. I will give them another shot!
Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer Oil: this is not something I was incredibly excited about; I can't jump on the oil bandwagon. I had very oily skin until about a year ago, and now I would say I'm more combination. This is lightweight, but I didn't love it. I also thought it would at least smell nice, but it was scent-free, which is a good thing for some. Not for me, but if you like oils then this is probably a good choice.
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray: let me just tell you how phenominal this smells. It smells above and beyond the scent of fresh laundry. It creates soft waves, and I think it worked pretty well. My hair is naturally like that, so it didn't dramatically change it, but I guess that's a good thing, right? It didn't feel greasy or weigh my hair down. I like it and will use the sample, but I will keep using my usual products (oribe and macadamia professional - both I found through Birchbox, btw and are included in my phenominal hair product post!).
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser: Kiehl's has a cult-like following, so I was pretty excited for this. It was a very gentle cleanser that made nice suds and was perfect for my combination skin. Its foaming texture is what I look for in a face wash. I'm not planning on replacing my current cleanser (Caudalie), but this was great and I will certainly be packing this travel-size item on my next trip!
